Hi. For anyone wondering, no, I have not fell off the face of the earth. “So where was I,” you ask? Oh yes. I was having a summer of fun. The plan was to travel as much as we could and don’t say no to fun in any forms. So here is what I did on my summer vacation.
We went to the Kentucky Derby! Well, I guess that was still spring but I’m starting there. Josh’s brother, Russ his wife Jenny (my sista from another mista) and twin boys live there so we all went together! They are just the best people and hosts! We packed a picnic, found a tame spot at turn 1, stayed all day, bet on some horses, and drank some mint juleps. It was awesome! We will definitely go again!
Then for Memorial Day we went to Sharpsburg, Maryland and the battlefield at Antietam. We stayed at a beautiful B&B with our old roommate/best friend Chris and his amazingly awesome girlfriend Corie. She found everything and even got us a private tour guide to show us everything.
Next up was New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail with some old friends. Josh sat this one out. My travel mate/partner in crime extrodinaire Jess was amazing and brought sippy cups!
I got to see most of my bartending friends, make some new friends, see rebirth brass band, eat a bunch of amazing food, and do some major imbibing, oh and 8 AM yoga! I am so glad I went and New Orleans blessed me with another beautiful memory adding to it’s already stellar reputation.
Directly following Nola, was Lily Dale for my sisters birthday. If you’ve never heard of Lily Dale do yourself a favor and check it out http://www.lilydaleassembly.com. It is an unchanged, little Victorian town with one of the highest concentrations of spiritualists and registered mediums. We went to some group readings, the healing service, each had a private reading, and celebrated my sisters birthday. Lily Dale is pure peace. It was awesome and I know personally, I left feeling better than when I arrived.
The day after Lily Dale we went to Kennywood for Josh’s birthday. I have been unable to go for a couple of years and was really looking forward to some roller-coasters and rides. There was 6 of us and we had a great time! We rode a bunch had some fries then left to get dinner because we are old, but it was awesome!
The last trip was our North Carolina vacation. We started off in Asheville for a couple of days with my best friend Liz, her husband Jon, baby, and Josh’s brother Russ and wife Jenny. It was fantastic! We had great food, stayed in a really cool bungalow, roasted marshmallows, wandered around Asheville and went canoeing on the French Broad. Also, Josh and I had the best meal of our lives at Curate, seriously amazing octopus!
After Asheville, Josh and I went to Bryson City to hang out in the Smoky Mountains. It is by far one of our most favorite places. I think this picture explains why. We hiked a lot, took a train through the mountains, went to Cherokee Indian reservation, Fontana Dam. We stayed away from the crowds and touristy places. Spending time there just the two of us was just perfect.
This summer has been amazing. It was full of fun, cookouts at my moms, wine with my other half, showers, baptisms, long walks with Scooter, weddings, canoes, pink moons, bonfires, brunch, tequila, wineries, nachos, highlife, iced coffee, trips to the park, ice cream, feathers, day lilies, farm veggies, etc. Thank you to some of the best friends a girl could ask for, the most loving, supportive family in the world, and my rock and love of my life my husband, for making it healing, fun, and happy. I am so grateful for everything. I’m even grateful for what’s next now that the summer of fun is over. Maybe the Autumn of Awesome?
